Mario Moreno "Cantinflas"
was born August 12, 1911 in a humble family. To please his father he registered as a student at the at the university in Mexico City but soon he began his first steps as a dancer and imitator. He also worked as a boxer and comedian in a circus. His loving attitude and optimism lead him to create the character of a good hearted “pelao”, a Mexican “pícaro”, and his peculiar labyrinth of senseless words speaking style, his falling pants, ragged T shirt, the tie around the neck, completed that extraordinary comedian known as “ ”.
Soon from the theater he moved on to films. In 1940 he founded a film company reaching success and fame with “ ”. He acted in more than 50 films.. His fame took him abroad acting in the Hollywood production “Around the world in 80 days”.
In his films he often denounced social injustices and promoted solidarity. In his real life he was the founder of organizations to help the needed and was active in social and political causes. He died of cancer in 1993.
